Senior Staff

An organization is only as competent as the people that operate it. Every SDS project is staffed with an experienced and highly effective project manager with acomplementing support staff to meet the objectives and demands of our client and the project. Each project manager has the technical knowledge and people skills necessary to develop a commitment from the design and construction team. Our staff is skilled in defining a problem, developing action plans, and in following through with the implementation of solutions.

Our staff adheres to a system of management and company policies that ensure successful project completion and repeat business. Developing and maintaining superior management skills is a lifelong pursuit for our senior staff. SDS requires that each senior member read journals, attend seminars and workshops, and learn from other professionals in an effort to continually expand upon their base of technical knowledge and increase their ability to drive an efficient project through a multitude of complexities and challenges.

In addition to our in-house staff, we have the expert advice of architects, engineers, and other consultants with whom we have developed a close professional relationship.

Lance Weisel

Managing Director of SDS, oversees every project, attends OAC meetings, and provides continual support for the on-site management team. He has over 20 years of construction experience and managed numerous commercial projects ranging from $600,000 to $70 million, including: Wailea Marriott Resort, Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort, Honoapi’ilani Highway Improvements, Hyatt Regency Kauai, Hyatt Regency Maui, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort, Honolua Ridge Subdivision Phase I and II, Moku’ula Restoration, Pineapple Hill Recreation Center, Maui Golf & Sports Park, Kapalua Coconut Grove Condominiums, Kapalua Village Clubhouse and Golf Academy, Maui Marriott Resort, Mana Kai Maui Resort, Kahului Federal Credit Union, Hawaii National Bank, Maui County Employees Credit Union, Teacher’s Credit Union, Occupational Health Center, and many others in Hawaii and the Mainland. He is experienced in all aspects of construction management, including scheduling, budgeting, contractor negotiations, due diligence, project accounting, financial analysis, value engineering, feasibility analysis, consultant coordination, reporting, and so on.

Eric Hamaguchi

A Senior Project Manager on Oahu with SDS, is among the most qualified and experienced professionals in the construction industry with over 20 years of experience in hotel renovations, tenant improvements, industrial building construction, and other complex projects.

Chuck Philips

Another qualified Senior Project Manager with SDS, has served as General Manager and Director of Engineering at some of the finest resorts in Hawaii. He has managed numerous construction and renovation projects from the conceptual stages to final close-out, including the $52 million renovation of the Wailea Marriott Resort.

Michael Bissell

Formerly a Project Manager at Hyatt Hotels for 15 years, is another example of the quality of staff at SDS. He is a Senior Project Manager with vast experience in hotel construction, in addition to site work improvements, utility installation, entitlements, and design team management. His high level of technical expertise in computer software and refined organizational skills has helped to elevate the quality of project management throughout the company.

Ted Birkland

Senior Project Manager on the Big Island, established a reputation over the past two decades as a successful residential contractors and highly competent construction manager for large scale commercial and resort projects. He is presently managing a $36 million renovation of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort.

Socrates Bastinos

Project Manager and Superintendent with SDS, has a diverse background that ranges from extensive shipwright work in England and the United States, to hotel construction and renovation work. Socrates oversaw all renovation and repair projects for Imperial Hotel Corp. and Vagabond Inns in California for several years. He has a vast knowledge of construction methods and practices, and is skilled in assembling and controlling successful teams of contractors.

Other staff includes Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Contract Administrators, and Accountants. The needs of each project are matched with the background and expertise of the appropriate staff members.
